DoA Triathlon 2019 🥉

For the first time in all of my years on DoA I participated in the forum celebrations. The theme for the first challenge sparked an idea and I had the time as well, usually work would get in the way of things - but not this time around!

Round one we were to create a wig from out of nontraditional materials. I went through all of my bits and pieces and had plenty of mulberry flowers laying around, so why not use those? Added quartz points, mulberry leaves, little pine cones, metal leaves and pearl string into the mix and this was the final result.

The wig was built on top of a hard cap and used plenty of hot glue for all of those flowers!

Second challenge was to make an outfit that would match the wig. I didn't want it to be at all practical, I wanted it to be something entirely useless for every day wear. Had some stretchy green soft tulle that I used for the main outfit, some "dragon scale" pleather for the arm guards, soles of the sandals, and the belt. Decorated with some more flowers and little swarovski crystals and ribbon, also made a bracelet that's being worn on the left arm.

Used some silver chain to attack that leaf "necklace" to the shirt with.

The bracelet, a rose atop some small bits of black quartz, underneath is a bracelet made from metal leaves.

I know you didn't have to make shoes, but to me it would have looked weird if he had been barefoot, so had to make some shoes of a sort.

The third and last challenge was a diorama, their "Grand Entrance". I wanted to create the feel of an old forest so went out and gathered moss covered branches and twigs which i then decorated with even more Mulberry flowers, leaf trim, pearl string and quartz points here and there. I had some fun with encasing walnut shells in concrete to make a sort of patio with a few stepping stones laid into the middle to make a path way. Used some old wall paper for the background and coffee grinds for topsoil.

My pretty little elf making his grand entrance! Only thing I'd wish for was for the diorama to be twice as big, but when you don't have the space you make do.

I was lucky enough to win 3rd place with my entry, I can't really believe it, is really cool though! That out of all those other entries, entries I found way cooler than mine, I was in the top tier. Goes to show sometimes you're simply lucky.

AngelHeim Zion Elf - Box Opening

I'm all speechless, I never thought I'd ever be lucky enough to have this guy in my crew, never. AngelHeim closed in 12/13 and you don't see this guy around much at all. They made so many amazing fantasy inspired dolls, Zion was the one I never really quite forgot. I'm ever so thankful for the seller at DoA contacting me, having an Elf Zion, snakes and all, in mint condition she wanted to sell. Even more so when she agreed upon a longer than she expected layaway deal. I can't really believe he's here, he's really, truly sitting right in front of me, looking like he just got shipped out from AngelHeim, I'm just, wow

Just look at that faceup! It's like 8 years old, only thing that needs to be taken care of are those eye lashes, but that's an easy fix.

I'm not sure about his name yet, what I do know is I will make him a wig from out of mulberry flowers of a kind with those snakes incorporated and dress him in some floofy sleeved shirt and some sort of pants. Not decided upon the colour theme and he also needs a change of eyes from SIAB when I have the funds. He will be fun to clothe and be able to show him off properly when the time comes!

DollZone Antu - Box Opening

Got this little cutie in the mail a couple of days ago, haven't had the time to share pictures of the BO until now. AC didn't send me any notification of then having shipped it off, I just randomly got a text from DHL, which I at first thought to be a scam. The delivery guy came around about an hour before I had to go to work so the pictures were just quick snaps. Could have waited, but how could I? How can anyone? And it being my first ever centaur I was so impatient to see him already!

I haven't got any eyes for him yet, all the spare ones I had laying around just didn't fit him properly, they were all too human. Don't know if I will use the wings or the tiny unicorn horn, he already looks absolutely adorable as it is! I'll see to sew him a little something to wear in the days to come, wont be anything wild as I have plans of blushing most of that body. Not going with a traditional wig either, going to be making one from out of mulberry flowers or some such, he'll be such a cute little horse boy!

MSD Carrier Case - Fin

Getting back to work, even though I was tired to the bone, I managed to finish it! Need to figure out a better way to secure the handle as hot glue just doesn't quite do it. At least I don't need it before April, so have time to have a look at it before then.

Was, perhaps, a bit on the lazy side when it came to the satin lining in the bottom part. Simply put it in place using needles, but thought if, by chance, it got dirty it would be easy to swap out or wash this way, plus, who'd really notice unless you were really looking?
Don't know if I should add straps so that one could carry it over ones shoulder and not be dependent on the handle alone, or if this wont really matter in the long run. Should? Shouldn't? My tired head can't decide.

Love how much of a Rozen Maiden vibe it has got, which wasn't even my intention to begin with. Sad part is he wont be springing to life, the little guy who's going to reside in this, when the time comes. Would be neat tho!

Hope you enjoyed and that it brought forth some inspiration! Thanks for looking!

EDIT

Ended up adding a strap for over the shoulder carrying, and reinforced the handle as hot glue alone just didn't quite do it.

MSD Carrier Case - WIP

Started making this quite on a whim last night. I needed boxes to store some bits and bobs in for an upcoming con, and looking around the room my eyes fell on this great old box. It was the perfect length for a regular MSD, while also having more than enough room to make several smaller compartments for storage purposes.
First up was dealing with the exterior of the old cardboard box, had some nice wallpaper like packaging paper laying around and it was just enough to cover it up nicely.

After that I needed to figure out what to do about the interior, had some upholstery foam laying around that was perfect for the purpose.

Cutting out proper sized pieces and gluing them in place it slowly took form

Added a few pieces of metal to hold the antlers in place as I didn't want them to be able slipping around, and now that they did have magnets in them why then tie them down?

Also added some little legs and other metal embellishment on the outside to give it a fancy look and feel.

Going to line the interior with ivory satin, add ribbon to be able to securely hold the doll in place, sew little pillows, add a handle, and, perhaps, see what I can do about making it a tad water resistant now that I am at it.

I hope being able to finish the rest today, stay tuned!
