Sewing Update!

All forgetting to post updates here, actually gotten the crinoline finished, all I need to do now is take some proper pictures to show it off owo

Yesterday I sat down and began sewing the bag and all of the channel tubing. Took ages sewing, but damn does that look nice!

Even got so far as to getting the first 4 steel wire hoops into the bag, started sewing slots in the vertical tape and finished the waistband (minus buckle).

So, today I went at it again with the vertical tape slots, holy crap there were many, 100+ tiny little ones, measuring just about 1cm across. Even with a sewing machine it took me a couple hours if not more, just for the slots alone.

Having finished all of the slots, at long last, I could attach the vertical tape onto the bag, here I had already started pulling the hoops through the slots.

Every last hoop through the slots, the half hoops measured and tied (was that a hassle, didn't now the exact measurements of these, had to have the doll wear the crinoline while I had pulled some hoop pieces through the slots and measure where about I should make a cut for it to fit) and all missing in that picture was for the buckle and for the tape to be attached to the bag which I had forgot about in the meantime, that was until a needle pricked my finger xD

Going to shoot up some pictures tomorrow, it's too late and I'm too tired now for anything much.

Wedding Dress - Finished Crinoline and Corset WIP

Finally finished sewing the crinoline here the other day. Had been my intentions to shoot pictures yesterday but it was so grey and dark outside that I dismissed it entirely and spent the day getting kips put in Riku's joints along with his spouse, Matthew. Made it quite a joy shooting these pictures really. But here they are, pictures of a project that's taken well over 12 hours to complete. Looks easy enough putting together, but it's not. Takes a lot longer than you'd expect and I have this awful habit of underestimating how long some things will actually get to take.

The crinoline, while it isn't entirely perfect and could have been sewn a lot better, I'm pretty satisfied. Never made a crinoline like this before so for a first this isn't all bad. Next time I will just be using a different type of fabric for the piping as the one I used went and unexpectedly got all stretchy on me. Guess it didn't do well getting cut into thin strips. Also the top 4 half hoops could have been positioned better. Perhaps next time I should work on this crinoline around a mannequin to get things just the way they're supposed to. Again, I'm satisfied and for a first I don't think I'd be able to make it any better than this. Good thing it's to be covered by a petticoat, huh? Nah, just kidding, could have looked like a trainwreck and it doesn't.

Which brings us on to the next garment in line to be made:

The Corset

Posted a picture yesterday of the pieces cut out and here I've put them all together with pins. It will get to look so very nice with that print and gorgeous dark blue lining. Have yet to cut out some fabric for the modesty panel and the modesty placket but I will get there. Thinking I will have to go buy some much thinner satin ribbon seen as the ribbon I have here is far too thick and I only have black. There wont be doing much of any decoration on this, going to be keeping it really simple. Just some lace at the top and that'll be it. It's a shame the snap clasps for the busk hasn't arrived in the mail yet, then I'd be able to finish it in its entirety. For now I will simply sew as much of it as possible.

Wedding Dress - Crinoline and corset WIP

So, just thought I'd give a small update of how things are going with the sewing and putting together and slowly having it look like something.

Got the piping sewn together and the steel wires put through them yesterday. Did start trying to put it together but that didn't go so well. Today I went at it again, got the hoops attached with a shitload of pins and attaching the waistband. Still need the little slip of fabric going at the top back of it (no idea what it's called even) and the small pillow, too. But this is it so far:

Also have the bag to sew between the bottom most three hoops, so plenty to be done before this is 100% finished and ready to be worn.

Also got a pattern down for a corset. Really simple to make, just wrap the torso in plastic wrap, then masking tape, then draw the various sections you want, cut it open slowly and carefully with sharp scissors, cut the parts out, transfer pattern to paper and there you have it. DoA's got plenty of tutorials showing the process I used here, so simple.

Need to see what I have of fabric for the lining, some satin preferably, and cut all the pieces out, put them all together with pins and have it ready to be sewn together. Can't entirely finish this piece as I need for some snap fastener clasps to arrive in the mail and they've only just been shipped. But I will sew as much of it as I can and work on a lace protector as well.

SD sized ball gown - WIP

This is an old project of mine having been on hiatus for about a year now. Decided I would kick myself in motion again and finish what I started.

Back then I got quite a bit of sewing done for the main dress, if one could call it such. The list of garments were as follows: socks, long bloomers, chemise, crinoline cage, petticoat, over skirt, jacket, spoon bonnet, purse and a parasol.

The crinoline cage I had already put together, didn't get pictures of the in between process of putting it together but can say as much that it is steel boning for the hoops and they are all adjustable by an inch or so.

There I had yet to sew the hoops onto the string and ended up taking it little over an inch in as it was far too long.

I was really bad at shooting progress pictures which really is a shame, but yeah, finished crinoline on the left and the petticoat on the right.
Having finished that part I went to cutting out fabric and sewing together the overdress and, again, I didn't get progress pictures of that either.

Here it is all sown together, just needing the top and a zipper in the back.

Actually did get a few pictures of the progress of the top of that skirt back then, granted it isn't much, but it's something.

Later added ruffles to the hem of it as it looked barren and just to get a feel for how it would look attached to the skirt I made a mock up.

It actually got to look quite nice once it got sown together properly.

The lace and ribbon detail around the waist did get to be sown onto the dress in the end, can always remove the ribbon if it should come to be in the way of things.

So, that out of the way I started drawing patterns for the bloomers and chemise. I didn't have a specific pattern in mind so just drew what came to mind and went crazy finding lace and ribbons to really doll it up with. Sadly no in progress pictures of this either, seems to be a recurring problem of mine with all of my projects, but of course I do have one of the finished outcome.

The bloomers are crotchless, meaning they aren't sown together all the way in the crotch.

This was where things grinded to a halt. I waited forever on some fabric in the mail and when it finally arrived I was busying myself with other things and this project was set on a longer-than-expected hiatus.

I have gotten new ideas for it in the meantime. Still going to sew a purse and doing a few minor changes to a parasol I bought on eBay by changing the cover fabric and decorating it nicely. For the dress I'm going to be adding long detachable sleeves in some black see through fabric, there will be a long sleeves bolero with puffy shoulders, and a bustle skirt with a corsage-like underbust being tied together with ribbon in the front

But before I even put scissors near it I will have to work on fabricating patterns for all of this and hopefully I will have enough fabric when all comes to all. Else I just have to put up an order for some more and at least the 1st ain't so far away.
