Nearly all here sports a face-up done by my hand, just need about another 10 re-painted and it’s all my work and I pride myself with this. It’s also opened my eyes for how much I’ve improved since my first face-up. It’s been an amazing journey and I can only get better the more I practice.
Haven’t a picture of the very first but the second try I do have, the little guy isn’t with us anymore as he grew up on me so found him a new home, anyway:
Plenty, once thought it was oh so scary, but really it isn’t. Have done so many nose-jobs, sanding down cheeks, chins, opening eyes, re-shaped a body, torso-joints and what have we. Have yet to try my hand at dying resin, but I’d love to try one day!
One of the first mods I did was on Nathaniel, a LeekeWorld Eiden.
Sanded his lips down, nose, rounded his chin and slimmed down his cheeks a bit too.
Then there was the case of Liam, who first got a little smile on his usually pouty lips which I got a little help with from someone at a meet so can’t take full credit for this one.
Then after a while it wasn’t quite enough and I sat down with sanding paper and knives once again to modify him further.
Here his nose, lips, chin, jaw and cheeks have been sanded and I opened his mouth.
My most recent modding project is this little guy here (4S Olivia girl to boy mod).
Got his chin sanded down, as it was a tad too long for my likes, chest sanded down and reshaped, torso joint modification and lastly sculpted a penis.
I have a lot of modifications yet on my list, another torso joint to make, a guy here needing his mouth opened a bit, eyes to open, a body needing some more work as I’m not entirely satisfied with it yet, yup, I’m a busy little bee.
All the creativity everywhere, the limitless things you can do and only your imagination puts a stopper to where you can or can’t go, that or your skills but you can always learn if you’re willing.
23) Is there a part of the BJD hobby that you dislike?
The recast side who don’t care for the artists or the hobby, how it’s effecting it as a whole.
Else there’s the waiting for every little thing, but hey, one knew that when signing up for this, and still it’s part of the fun, the build-up before receiving whatever package.
These two couches and the baby crib I made myself from whatever scraps I could find and had at hand. The rocking horse I didn’t entirely make myself, what I did do was paint it white, add the mane, seat and the rein.
This baby pram I bought off of etsy some years ago, have yet to use it in a photo-shoot but it’s been used well even so.
If I were to have it I’d have to sculpt him myself, it’s a dream of mine to actually also do it as I’d love nothing more than to have a mini-me Megamind BJD. Just don’t know if he will ever get to be cast in resin as there’s this thing of having to buy at least x-amount of dolls in order to get a doll cast and I don’t want to put him up for sale. I want him to be exclusively mine and don’t want to be stuck with 10 dolls when all I need is one.
19) Do you have any spare eyes? What kind and where from?
All cheap glass eyes I either got with a doll purchase or bought years ago, except the two pairs in the upper right corner and even then they’re kinda crap as they’re high-dome which I didn’t know until I got them home, what a waste of money. A handful of them are from CapturedInGlass, a handful or so from DollMore, some from eBay and some from AlicesCollections.
So, here they are, 21 pairs and more will soon follow, never use them for anything, could sell them but it’s such a hassle so I don’t even bother.
Can’t say I really have one absolute favourite. The guys here come from some 20+ different companies and they’ve each got something to like about them. Can’t but love the diversity it creates and love finding new companies with amazing sculpts ready to be fallen in love with and taken home. To mention just a few of the companies I like are AnotherSecret, AliceinLabyrinth, LumeDoll, DollInMind and DollShe.
There are so many, not just one, the clothing I’ve sown myself are the ones I’m most proud of and are among the favourites. Sure, the things they’ve got home from other companies are great, but there’s just something about it when you alone have put so many hours and effort into a piece of clothing and not just chosen ‘the easy way out’. Anyway, here’s just a few favourites of mine:
I’d say they can all stand on their heads though sadly most of the YOs arms are too short making them unable doing it. It’s all about finding the balancing point, getting that camera and shoot a picture as with some you never know when they decide to fall over forwards or backwards. Not feeling all too well today so only shot a single picture of Silas showing us his abilities, would have loved showing a handful more, will do that some other time.
14) Have you ever had a floating head? What about a headless body? (What do you think you would do if you had either?)
I’ve had plenty floaties during my time in the hobby, have a couple as we speak which I am currently waiting on/saving up for bodies for. Always worked towards getting them bodies as fast as possible. Never had spare bodies tho.
Found out two are missing in this picture, but up there you see some 71 pairs. Worst part being there’s still not quite enough. I’d like for them to have at least 3 pairs each at some point, some already does, the rest are still waiting in line.
12) What do your friends think of your doll/dolls in general?
Since getting into this resin craze the few friends I’ve gained are part of the hobby or they’re part of some fandom or other with their own little quirks so they’re all cool.
11) How long have you collected dolls? Did you collect dolls before BJDs?
Been in the hobby for 7 years plus one year where I kept in the background finding out more about them, how to obtain them, the people and such. Didn’t collect any kind of doll before getting into this hobby.
I know these aren’t exactly animals, well, in a sense, but not real living ones. My excuse being that the two kittens here are in no way geared to stay put for more than three seconds before they run off to play chase. Had to make do with what I had and Etienne was todays model.
9) Do you have any spare wigs? If, how many and show us a picture!
In the picture above there are 32 assorted wigs, have 5 on the way and 42 additional wigs are currently in use. I know some of the wigs are the same in the picture but there was this one guy here whose head was a tad bit smaller than the site wrote so when he arrived none of them fit though the one mint and baby pink one does fit him so it’s just an extra of his.
Once I were all about SDs when the single MSD kiddo left for a new home about 5 years ago, swore that I’d never go smaller than SD ever again. A couple years later I get an MSD boy home once again and then YOs followed and just recently a tiny. Really haven’t got a favourite size no more.
Just recently the married couple here adopted a new baby boy Gilbert, BlueFairy PocketFairy Didi, he’s so adorably tiny, precious little baby boy he is ♥
The tallest guy here’s around 73cm, there’s actually two, DZ Hong and a Leeke Eiden on an old DZ 72,5cm body. Because this meme would be kind of a ‘dry one’ with just plain text and explanations I’ve here gathered all the tall guys ranging from 70cm and up to near 73cm:
From left to right:
Draco Malfoy - DZ Yue, Harry Potter - DOD DOI Kellan, Ayden McKinnon - DR X Chi, Tristan Blake - LD Keid ara new type hybrid Luts SSDF WS, Nathaniel Hunt - LK Eiden hybrid DZ 72,5cm WS, Matthew Loque - DZ Hong, Pitch Black - DS Saint Dark Grey
Tristan needs some propper clothes though he doesn’t seem to mind prancing about wearing just that v-neck and boxers, even Pitch doesn’t seem to give a damn showing off his gorgeous grey skin. Will see to get Draco, Harry and Matthew painted soon kinda sad seeing them all blank.
Home Ducan and some other also from DOD I can’t even remember the name of. Remember thinking the Ducan had way too pointy of a nose, funny how one’s opinion can change in matter of months when I paid for his plane ticket up here.
4) What/who was the first BJD you ever owned? Do you still own them? (Who is your planned first?)
DreamofDoll DOT Homme Ducan and he’s still around ever as pretty as he were soon 7 years ago when he first stepped into my life.
Back when he arrived in the spring of 2008 (grainy as heck as the only camera I had was my mobile and at that time 3,2Mp was the future aka didn’t really prioritize getting a new mobile):
This was quite the workout having to get all of these guys together like this and had to sit back for just a few in awe. Like these 40some guys do look like a lot but before they sat all scattered around the room so it didn’t come of as being all too bad. There are so many still in need of a face-up but either the sun, when it shines once in a while, is gone by the time i get home from work or, when the weather is finally for it and it’s during the weekends, I’m all booked with some family stuff which sucks, also been a bad boy and gotten quite behind what sewing clothing goes ._. Hope once that room, the very room this picture is shot, has been set up properly I can get to working on sewing once more.
When I came across these dolls some 8 years back what caught me was all the possibilities for letting out your creative monster and being able to do everything imaginable or within your skillset and will to learn more. That they were a blank canvas and there for you to create something truly unique and all yours.
It opened up a world of possibilities and in the years passing by I found myself challenging my sewing skills, sat making furniture out of basic everyday things I had at hand, making plans for sitting down and practice making my own BJD some day. I’ve been doing so many different things I would never have dreamt of doing ever.
